[Cringe] The Kakaku.com reviews I wrote in middle school are so nostalgic, LOL

Hello, I'm Muno.

While updating hundreds of passwords, I came across my password for Kakaku.com.
It was so nostalgic, and I thought seeing someone else's cringey past might make you feel good, so I'm going to share it. (Ehehe)

Let's take a look

Kakaku.com - Da-mau's Profile

I mean, Kakaku.com is amazing for still having this after being left alone for about 10 years...

The actual content is probably faster to see if you just visit the link, so I'll just skim through it casually.

October 14, 2014: EPSON > Multi-Photo Colorio EP-801A

image

This was around the time I started buying junk items.
I probably bought it at Hard Off back then. I was about 14 at the time; go study, kid...

April 6, 2015: SHURE > SRH240

image

It's full of the excitement of starting to use a soldering iron.
I think this was when I was into audio gear, repairing things and trying out various audio equipment.
Up to this point, it says 0 people found this helpful. Ehehe.

May 2, 2015: COWON > COWON Z2 plenue Z2-32G [32GB]

image

This was probably when I was into Korean DAPs.
Cowon effectively disappeared after that, but I saw something about them making a comeback.
At the time, iRiver and others were also popular. So nostalgic. I think I still have the device itself.

It's a hassle, so I'll skip the Final earphones.

January 6, 2016: ADATA > Premier SP550 ASP550SS3-240GM-C

At this point, my hoarding habit was already starting to show. Also, my phrasing was starting to get creepy. I feel like I've grown a bit since then. Wait, has it gotten worse...?

I fell in love with the durability of the X25-M SSD, which was even called "demonic," and ended up collecting a total of five 80GB units.
I have three 32GB units of the SLC SSD, the X25-E.
However, this SSD will shake the SSD world even further.
I never thought a 240GB SSD would drop below 9,000 yen so quickly.
I've already bought two.

I probably still have all the SSDs from that time...
Thinking about it, even if storage prices have gone up recently, they're still way cheaper than back then...

I remember that at this point, the so-called "SandForce controllers" were treated as landmines.
I think I was already glued to the PC building boards; the Sendai New Year's Sale thread was active, and that's what got me into checking dedicated threads.
Actually, I probably bought this at a New Year's sale...

This became the second most "helpful" review, but the "Level: Extensive PC building experience" is hilarious.

January 28, 2016: Audio-Technica > ATH-IM50 > ATH-IM50 BK [Black]

image

This was really good back then...

However, the official replacement cables for this IM50 sell for about 2,000 yen, and they don't spin around.

Right, the SE215 is still a classic for various reasons, but there are so many fakes circulating now it's crazy, and in the end, I still hate this MMCX connector.
The hype level of someone who had no idea the era of Bluetooth earphones would arrive so quickly and make these obsolete.
By the way, I still have these earphones too.

February 12, 2016: AQUOS PHONE Xx 203SH SoftBank > AQUOS PHONE Xx 203SH SoftBank [Blue]

image

This was probably around the time I started collecting and repairing smartphones.
I quite liked Sharp devices.
IGZO displays were this and that... well, Sharp itself ended up in its current state...

January 19, 2017: Eyefi > Eyefi Mobi EFJ-MC-08 [8GB]

image

An SD card with a built-in Wi-Fi module, which was a pioneer at the time.
Looking back, Eye-Fi's support was god-tier...

Probably when I started photography.

July 15, 2017: Shanghai Donya > DNF-SDX128C10 [128GB]

image

In the end, this never broke even after heavy use. I think it's still at home.
I think this was a Dospara brand that released all sorts of weird stuff. Does it still exist?

I wondered what "Teardown Report?" was, and then...

It was probably when I fixed my sister's university PC.
I recall it being a very thin and very cheap, good laptop for the time.

Closing

Looking at all these old things makes me feel nostalgic.
I thought, "I wish I had gotten a proper domain instead of just a homepage or rental server," but then I remembered being a middle schooler who hated spending money, so I used things like forum hosting that lent out subdomains—very nostalgic memories.
Back then, the Japanese environment for GNU/Linux itself was pretty rough, and I remember Ibus-Anthy being the standard. I recall seeing somewhere that Fcitx development progressed thanks to Chrome OS, making it the user-friendly environment it is today in GNU/Linux.

And when it came to setting up a PHP environment, XAMPP was the mainstream choice, and it was incredibly easy to get a local environment up and running in one go.
Then, I would upload it to a rental server via FTP using FFFTP.
SSL was starting to emerge, but there wasn't much information about Let's Encrypt, and I thought it was something you had to pay for at the time.

So, that's all for today.
Until next time.
