Hello, I am incompetent.

Somehow, when I went out to town with a friend, I found something like this.

It's a BOSE 101MM.

I've always had a bit of a longing to use BOSE speakers.
So, since it's compact and cute, I decided to take it home.

Apparently, it was written that the sound was scratchy, but that's no problem at all.

Now, Disassembly

BOSE, you know, had its own capacitors installed in this era.
I suspect there was an OEM supplier somewhere, and they just put the BOSE logo on it...

The reason why there's this white powder, or rather, dust, is because of the cushioning material inside.

Well, this is the problematic speaker part.

Apparently, for L/R, L works normally, but the R side is not working well, and rather than just being "scratchy," the volume is low, so it doesn't even function as a speaker.

After trying various things, it seems that the cone paper has deteriorated over time, causing its position to shift, and preventing it from producing sound properly.
I got the impression that it was due to hardening. If I try to shift the cone paper itself with my finger, it sometimes works normally. Therefore, it became necessary to cast a "spell" on this cone paper.

Although the appearance hasn't changed at all, this is after the "spell" has already been cast.

In other words, if it's hard, all you need to do is give it moisture.
Surely, paper is alive too.

Impressions of Sound Quality

In reality, I can't say that my audio environment has dramatically changed in a big way!
To begin with, speakers included with old Japanese component stereo systems from the 1980s-1990s often have good build quality due to the remnants of the bubble economy, so it's harsh to compare them. Well, they are quite cheap though...

However, as a powerful speaker that can even be used outdoors, isn't it wonderful?

So, making my old dream a reality, I'll try replacing my home speakers with the BOSE ones.

Since I feel like I've become a bit more mature, when I bought Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" in high school, I didn't really understand its appeal, and ended up only listening to "Can't Buy a Thrill" and "Aja." So, it was a day when I felt like trying to listen to "Two Against Nature" calmly again after a long time.

Well then.

Until next time.
